Adopting an animal is a life long commitment. They are not disposable.

Please note: This poem has been floating around for years.
It was written by "Anonymous" and refers to a dog dumped at a dog pound
where animals are euthenized after a few days if they are not
claimed or adopted.
If, for whatever reason, someone must give up a pet,
they should always surrender it to a Humane Society affiliated shelter
where it will be cared for and adopted out.
The Good Shepherd Humane Society maintains a very successful adoption program.
The animals which are cared for there always receive
excellent attention to their needs.
