Out here in the Ozarks there lives
a bird majestic in flight with a wingspan
of six feet. During daylight hours one
can see above somewhere in the sky at
least half a dozen turkey vultures soaring
and searching for carrion.
Eureka Springs, being a bit off-center, is
the perfect place to launch my new business. Watch for the accompanying advertisement which will be appearing in The Lovely County Citizen.

Sky burial is a common funerary practice
wherein a human corpse is placed on a
mountaintop exposing it to the elements,
animals, and especially to birds of prey.
The practice is known as jhator in Tibet or bya gtor, which literally means "giving alms to the birds".
There is no need to preserve the body as it is now an empty vessel. Birds may eat it or nature may let it decompose. So the function of the sky burial is simply the disposal of the remains.
In much of Tibet as here in the Ozarks the ground is too hard and rocky to dig a grave and the woods here are so prone to fire, thus a sky burial is more practical than cremation or interment.
